University of Fribourg

Switzerland's only bilingual university, the University of Fribourg has cultivated since its foundation an international atmosphere, which it retains to the present day. Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral degrees can be completed in French, German, or a combination of both, with additional classes taught in English at the Master's level. Close links between scientific research and academic teaching are typical for studies at all levels in Fribourg.

The University is made up of five schools: the Faculties of Theology, of Law, of Economics and Social Sciences, of Arts, and of Science. Interdisciplinary studies are encouraged, with programs and classes ranging from European Studies, to Ethics & Human Rights, to Biomedical and Environmental Sciences. In addition, the University's dedication to new fields of research, such as Nanomaterials, Competitiveness and Multilingualism, keeps students as well as professors constantly striving to break new ground.

In its Charter, the university places a special emphasis on the quality of teaching and the quality of the relationship between student and teacher.

Studying in the medieval town of Fribourg, students find themselves surrounded by a beautiful landscape, with remarkable historical and cultural depth; they also experience the special flair of a true university town, with nearly 10,000 students from around the world, making up a large proportion of the town's 40,000 inhabitants.
