Program Description

The Master in Asian Studies offers multidisciplinary (culture, language, history, society, economics, politics, external relations, development cooperation) and intercultural training. Among its staff are academics from various sections of the UNIGE (the Faculty of Social Science and Economics, the Faculty of Arts, IHEID) as well as experts from foreign universities, international organizations and specialized institutions. It addresses both non-specialists and those who have already embarked on the study of Asia, whether in the humanities or in the social sciences.
The aim of instruction is to give students a well-rounded knowledge of Asia countries, both as such and in their relations with the rest of the world. It is unique in combining theory and practice, and thus offering students the most complete preparation possible for dealings with Asia in various professions. Apart from their academic studies, candidates must also learn an Asian language and get the opportunity to do research or an internship, either in an Asian country or at an institution working with Asia.
