IMD

IMD is one of the world抯 leading business schools with over 50 years?experience in developing the leadership capabilities of international business executives at every stage of their careers. The majority of our program participants come from medium to large corporations and all have an international orientation to their businesses. Many companies, who begin by sending their managers to IMD programs, go on to develop their relationship with the institute to a closer level and become part of the IMD Learning Network, which provides still further learning advantages.
IMD was established in January 1990, as the successor to two previously independent business schools; IMI, founded in Geneva by Alcan in 1946, and IMEDE, founded in Lausanne in 1957 by Nestl? Incorporated under the name "International Institute for Management Development," IMD, as the institution is known around the world, is a leading provider of Executive Education for large and medium size international businesses, and for individuals. IMD today delivers the best in "real world" learning to build global organizations and individual careers.
Many of the 57 full-time Faculty members, made up of 19 different nationalities, are recognized world authorities in their fields. They divide their time between teaching, carrying out research and acting as consultants to major companies in many industries. This ensures that they remain firmly on top of the latest developments in managerial practice. Faculty draws on this experience to create a particularly effective learning environment that is highly conducive to tackling critical issues facing businesses today.
IMD is truly international. Every year, some 5,500 executives, representing over 70 nationalities, attend more than 20 open-enrollment Executive Development Programs (including an intensive MBA program) as well as company-specific Partnership Programs. They come from virtually every sector of service and manufacturing industries and range from young managers with a few years?experience to board members from major world-class corporations. English is the working language at IMD, though no single business approach or cultural background dominates. We currently have more than 50,000 Alumni based in over 140 countries and more than 40 Alumni clubs worldwide.
The IMD campus is located in the heart of Europe, on the shores of one of Switzerland抯 most beautiful lakes, in one of the world抯 most international regions.
