Glion Institute of Higher Education

Since it opened in 1962, Glion Institute of Higher Education has been one of the foremost hotel schools in the world. The institute is housed in the iconic Bellevue Hotel overlooking Lake Geneva and is widely recognized as one of the top-three schools for hospitality management.

This is a truly international place to study. Nearly 95 percent of the enrollees are from outside of Switzerland. Many students come from Asia, the Middle East and Africa, making this one of the most dynamic and multi-faceted places to study hospitality management in the world.

Academics
The international atmosphere at Glion makes it an attractive institute for students of any background. Switzerland is synonymous with excellent hotel schools, and Glion was the first private school of its kind in this country. As a student, you’ll be the beneficiary of this stalwart hotel-school model, but you’ll also benefit from modern craft-based learning techniques.

Studies begin with the basic skills needed for the hospitality industry, which includes an early internship. This is paired with general education courses taken from the American model that help students round out their skills. Management classes are next, followed by another internship in which the student takes on a supervisory position. It’s an expertly crafted program with room for specialization so that every student emerges from Glion with a unique set of highly marketable skills.

Campus Life
The campus lies on the “Swiss Riviera” in what is easily one of the most attractive settings in Europe. Summers are surprisingly temperate, and students enjoy year-round outdoor activities from sailing on the lake to skiing or playing ice hockey. A ten-minute train ride down the mountain leads to Montreux, a world-class resort known for its classical music and jazz festivals.

On campus, students spend a lot of time at the Club, which has a game area, TV and bar. Throughout the year, the student board organizes tournaments, parties and off-campus outings to give classmates an opportunity to unwind and get to know each other.

Faculty & Staff

Glion employs 50 full-time and about half as many part-time faculty members. These are some of the hospitality industry’s most successful executives and consultants, and they work hard to bring their academic expertise and practical experience together in innovative ways.

Faculty members embrace Glion’s six standards of excellence: passion, inspiration, empowerment, challenge, sophistication and curiosity. These are designed with students in mind, to foster a forward-thinking and creative environment where you’ll learn as much about the hotel industry as you do about your own personal development and professional ambitions.

Life after Glion
Glion’s directors work hard to maintain the school’s exclusive image, and as a graduate you’ll be among the world’s most qualified candidates for leadership in the hotels and hospitality industry.

The alumni association is an invaluable networking tool. Today, there are 3,500 members spanning some 120 countries. Graduates can use the university web portal to connect with other alumni, even applying for international positions advertised through the Career Center.
