The ZHAW was created in the autumn of 2007 as a result of the merger between the Zürcher Hochschule Winterthur (ZHW), the Hochschule Wädenswil (HSW), the Hochschule für Angewandte Psychologie Zürich (HAP) and the Hochschule für Soziale Arbeit Zürich (HSSAZ). The ZHAW has campuses in Winterthur, Zurich and Wädenswil. The ZHAW’s close ties to the Zurich area make it one of Switzerland’s largest and best-performing multidisciplinary universities of applied sciences, whose importance is recognised both nationally and internationally. Two essential characteristics of the ZHAW are its interdisciplinary emphasis and the focus its teaching places on practical applicability. These attributes are illustrated by the positive impact of collaborative work carried out by specialist areas across borders, and by the above-average level of professional aptitude demonstrated by ZHAW graduates.
Since the 2010/2011 autumn semester, the total number of students enrolled for the ZHAW’s 24 bachelor degree programmes and 11 consecutive master’s degree programmes has been over 9,000. In addition to these courses, the ZHAW also offers a broad range of continuing education programmes, including more than 30 which culminate in the award of a master’s degree. University of Zurich
The University of Zurich was founded in 1833, though its origins stretch back as far as 1525 and the days of protestant reformer Ulrich Zwingli. The town itself is shaped by 1400 years of history. The town was founded by the itinerant monk Gallus, after whom the town is named, who set up a hermitage in 612 near today's cathedral.
You will encounter the past wherever you go if you take a stroll through the historical, old part of the town: the world-famous bow windows, the historical alleyways with their centuries-old buildings and the magnificent baroque cathedral. The cathedral was built between 1755 and 1767 and lies at the core of the Abbey district, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

University of Lugano
Founded in 1996, the Università della Svizzera italiana is a member of the Swiss university system, together with the nine other cantonal universities and the Federal Institutes of Technology in Zurich and Lausanne. It is the only Italian-speaking university in Switzerland and comprises four Faculties: Architecture on the Mendrisio campus and Communication Sciences, Economics and Informatics, on the Lugano campus. The University of Lucerne is the youngest university in Switzerland. Its roots stretch back as far as 1600, but it has existed as a modern university only since 2000.
